Changes in the ownership of private drainage and sewers has fundamentally changed the composition of a sewerage utilitiy's assets and brought associated sewerage services management challenges. Sewerage utilities typically have little knowledge of private drains and sewers, which, when they fail, can have a direct impact on customers.
The technology relevant to the management of sewer systems continues to evolve, including methods of inspecting sewers, the capability of modelling packages and the techniques available for rehabilitation and operational management. There is a continuing need to present this information and data and its relevance to the water industry. In particular much work has been done in recent years (and is continuing) to develop the concept of Sustainable Urban Drainage (SUDS) and to take account of anticipated climate change.
