Welcome to the SRM Website
The Sewerage Rehabilitation Manual (SRM) has for over 25 years been a key document for planning upgrading work on sewer systems both in the UK and worldwide.
This website contains the output from a project, undertaken by WRc on behalf of a major part of the UK water industry, to update the Manual and develop the concept of Sewerage Risk Management.
The effective management of sewerage assets in a modern context continues to present the challenges of how to maintain a high level of performance within tight budgetary constraints and to meet the demanding requirements of all stakeholders. In addition, there are new challenges such as climate change and sustainability to be considered. Assessing and balancing the risks in a logical, consistent manner is a prime requirement, and the approach presented here is the current implementation of a methodology which has evolved over more than twenty five years.

Structure of the SRM Website All the previous versions of the SRM were produced as paper based hard copy versions in a number of volumes, either two or three in number. The production of the current SRM update as a web-based and CD ROM deliverable has, to a significant extent, removed the requirement to consider document “volumes”, since one of the opportunities of a web based deliverable is to permit a number of alternative ways of accessing the material rather than the linear / hierarchical volume approach. Nevertheless, it is still appropriate to classify the information contained in the SRM update into general sections in order to provide a structure to the web deliverable as described below.
This structure is also helpful in guiding access to the website as this is restricted in accordance with a fee paying structure.
